1884, James Doyle great-grandfather of the present owner Michael Doyle opened
Doyle's of the Shamrock for business on 17th of March. This happened to
be the birthday of St. Patrick the patron Saint of Ireland as well as the Irish
National Holiday. He called the premises the Shamrock in honour of St. Patrick.
Each
of the divisions is run separately by its own management team.
Doyle's Importers and Distributors was established in 1979 and operates from a 15-acre site with 70,000 sq.ft of warehousing space and 5,000 sq. ft of modern offices and showrooms. Doyles purchased, upgraded and renovated this site in 1997. The premises are centrally located for easy distribution throughout the whole of Ireland. From a zero start we are proud to say that Doyle's is now Ireland's largest importer and distributor of lawnmowers and cement mixers. Many of the brands which Doyle's handle were unheard of in the market place before Doyle's became their agents.
Doyle's have a diverse product range including heavy hardware, light hardware, home furnishings, wallpaper, DIY and bathroom tiles. Doyle's of the Shamrock is proud to say that they have won the national Builders Merchants of the Year Award in 1986-87, 1996-97, and 1998-99, a feat not equalled by any other firm in the country. The Builders Merchants Award is judged on tidiness of the store, range of product lines, support for Irish goods, health and safety staff training, marketing, display, customer service, staff knowledge and efficient management practices. Doyle's Hire and Sales comprises of four branches - Carlow, Kilkenny, Tullow and Naas.
